Happy New Year!
Great learning takes place this time of year as students engage in their education with enthusiasm! This robust learning is balanced by plenty of outdoor physical movement, such as skating and snow shoeing. All classrooms will be taking snow shoe expeditions around the nearby area in the coming weeks. Please be sure your child comes to school prepared for the outdoors, every day. Other events/information this week:
· SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT - The Otters are raising funds for a service learning project in Costa Rica! A major fundraiser featuring a chili feed, silent auction and concert will take place on Sunday, 1/26. See attachment for details. If you are unable to make it to the fundraiser there are other options if your family wishes to support their effort:
o Go Fund Me Link: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/otters-class-trip
o Upcoming Etsy site (more info to come!)
· PLANT SALE PREPARATIONS – Have you been receiving seed catalogs? So has GES! This year, GES environmental educator, Erik Hahn is teaming up with last year’s plant sale coordinator, Alisa Bernes to bring a bigger, better plant sale! But, they can’t do it alone. Please consider how you can help with GES’ largest fund raiser – by planting/transplanting, watering or helping out on sale day. Sign up details coming soon!
· GREAT LUNCH! – The new Great Lunch program is going strong with many selections to choose from beyond the main menu item. (See January menu attached). If your child has not yet participated, encourage them to give it a try! Lunch tickets are $3.50 for students and $5.00 for adults, if you would care to join your child. Dairy Free/Gluten Free/Meat Free options are available at all meals. Families who qualify for support will be contacted by the business office this month.
· TOPIC OF THE MONTH – Check out the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic’s Topic of the Month: Sugar & Sugar Substitutes.
Stay warm and enjoy the snow!
