The Bear Cubs classroom is
Kindergarten and 1st grades.

A bit about the Bear Cubs :

This bunch loves to sing and move!  They are also a thoughtful group. They don't have much trouble following the Bear Cub Promise. We are working on developing community through games, greetings and songs. They are doing a great job!

We are focussing on literacy, devoting time each day. We have been working on how to Read To Self. This first involved learning that there are three ways to read a book, read the words, read the pictures and, retell a story. We then worked on developing “stamina” a word that they will begin to use a lot. We did this by practicing in short increments and having success. We then moved on to reading with others. The goal of this is to create independence in small groups so that I am able to effectively teach small groups.

 A bit about Sue

I came to teaching late in my life and am very thankful I did! Before teaching I spent some time home-schooling my own children and running my own day-care. I also spent a few years working for Community Education in the ECFE program and working with middle school youth. During this time I also did some substitute teaching and was privileged to be able to spend some time at GES. I loved the feel of the school. I remember coming home one day after substitute teaching and telling my husband that I would love to teach at GES and lo and behold here I am! The philosophy at GES shows so much respect toward the child and the process of learning. I love being a part of it and look forward to many more years!  I love teaching Kindergarten/1st grade. They are so very eager to learn and are like little sponges. It's so much fun to see the look on their faces when that light-bulb moment happens. THEY are the reason I teach!
