New business

Ilena Berg talked about having the middle school students participate in a regional science fair at the end of February in Duluth.  She will get more information and begin communicating with students and parents.  There also will be a science quiz bowl on a Saturday in early February for middle school age students.  More information about this will be available soon.

After a brief discussion, Nina made a motion to follow the same emergency school closing practice as that of  ISD-166.  Suzy Schweig seconded.  Ayes all.

Old business

Audubon trip details were discussed.  The trip is scheduled for Feb. 14 – 16, 2005

There was some continuing discussion about recess time and Tom Resek asked board and staff members to offer any suggestions so they could be incorporated into a planning  session he will hold with parent volunteers.

Strategic planning

Barb suggested each board member take 5 minutes to identify on post-it notes, several key issues facing GES.  Following the brief exercise the board reviewed and discussed each identified issue.

Following the brainstorming, several key issue areas were prioritized and individual board members volunteered to lead the school’s approach to those issues. The issues are:

  2. High school – Nina
