School Board Meeting Minutes

In Attendance:

3:40 Call to Order

by Barb Nagle
Welcome; and reading of mission by Suzy Schweig.

3:45 Approval of Agenda

Motion: Suzy Schweig moved to approve the meeting agenda; Patty Nordahl seconded; ayes all.

3:50 Approval of Minutes

Motion: Patty Nordahl moved to approve the minutes, as amended, from the October 20, 2003 Great Expectations school board meeting; Suzy Schweig seconded; ayes all. Amendments: correct spelling of Kathryn Nelson-Pedersen's name; and, correct name of handbook to Family Handbook.

3:55 Finance Report

Deb Dwyer presented the financial report. Audit reports for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2003 were handed out. The board also discussed spending priorities.
Motion: Nina Simonowicz moved to approve a list of checks submitted for payment; Suzy Schweig seconded. Ayes all.

4:20 Educators' Report

Amy Brown and Suzy Schweig commented on a recent visit by Mike Link, executive director of the Audubon Center of the North Woods, sponsor of Great Expectations School. Teachers reported they were looking at additional ways to integrate the concepts of Environment as an Integrating Context into the classroom and additional ways to communicate with parents. Suzy and Amy also reported they had visited Prairie Creek charter school during the school break.

5:05 Director's Report

Deb Dwyer reported she had met with Dr. Susan Larson-Kidd at the Universtity of Minnesota - Duluth and talked about a variety of matters related to administration and the planned move into the new building. She also reported GES received a $2,000 credit for use in services at Wolf Ridge Environmental Center. Plans were discussed for moving into the new building over the weekend prior to the start of the second learning block which begins Noveember 10.

Motion: Amy Brown moved to adjourn seconded, Patty Nordahl seconded; ayes all.
