School Board Meeting Minutes
In Attendance:

4:05 Call to Order
by Suzy Schweig

4:05 Approval of Agenda
Motion: Tom moved to approve
agenda; Nina seconded; ayes all.
4:06 Approval of Minutes
Motion: Tom moved to table minutes;
Nina seconded; ayes all.
4:08 Treasurer's Report :: Tom Dwyer
none

no treasurer's report; Tom seconded; ayes all.
4:10 Committee Reports
1) Enrollment :: Nina Simonowicz
Recommended that GES request school records in June, 2003
We have received 12 applications after the first parent meeting.
We are right at projections.
Board will receive a list of interested people who will need
to be contacted concerning upcoming meetings.
Discussed a need for a FAQ handout and online version.
2) Building & Grounds :: Tom Dwyer
Working on continuing locating property in or near Grand Marais.
Waiting to hear back from Dr Norm Chaffee on status of loan
assistance.
3) Food :: Kim Falter
Prioritized that need is
1) to establish a food committee, and
2) query families about their needs.
Kim attended School Meals Food Expo - included seminars (food
& nutrition, meat irradiation, etc) and a trade show.
Committee will look into requirements for reimbursements;
will work on philosophy statement and priorities and will
present to board. Need a cost range for parents and for board.
The board appreciates all of Kim's work!
4:40 Old Business
1) Resource Coordinator's Report :: Deb Dwyer
Handed out signature page for bylaws for everyone's files.
Discussed contacting ISD 166 School Board members for an exploratory
meeting about how the two entities might communicate.
Sent out invitations to Jan 28 meeting.
The federal grant has been re-negotiated and it looks as if
we will receive the full amount.
Deb & Suzy will be meeting our UMD partner to discuss
educator interview/hiring process on Tues Jan 21.
Terry Nagle & Mike Link (of Audubon Center for the North
Woods) are meeting with DCFL on Wed Jan 22 for a mandatory
charter school/sponsor meeting.
2) Recap of January 14 Parent/Student Meeting
due to time limitations, Suzy will forward information and
the board will discuss at another meeting
3) Jan 28 Community Open House
Goal is to have the community understand that GES is a postive
addition to the community.
Discussed the presentation and a re-working of our info packet
so it can stand alone.
Deb Dwyer will coordinate final preparations.
4) February 12 & 25 Parent Meetings
tabled until next week
