School Board Meeting Minutes

4:09 Approval of Agenda

Motion: Patty Nordahl moved to approve. Seconded: Suzy Schweig

4:10 Approval of Minutes

Motion: Nina Simonowicz. Seconded: David Parsons

4:10 Treasurer's Report

Motion by Nina Simonowicz that GES per diem pay does not include alcoholic beverages. Seconded by David Parsons. Ayes all.
Motion by Nina Simonowicz that sub pay is changed from $125 to $105 for full day and $55 for half day. Patty Nordahl seconded. Ayes all.
Motion by Nina Simonowicz to approve payment of bills upon credit approval. David Parsons second. Ayes all.


4:30 Educators Report

Suzy Schweig and Amy Brown reported working with Dr. Susan Larson Kidd and Vicki Nelson.
Wolf Ridge visited 1/13 and will continue to have visits through May. A naturalist for each class was present. The K-2 focused on Animal Tracking; 3-5 focused on Animal Signs; 6-8 focused on Geology.
Ralph Lathum, community poet, has been working with 3-5 and 6-8 on poetry which will eventually lead to students entering into poetry contest, River of Words. Contest deadline is Feb.15.
Progress Reports have had very little feedback. The few things heard have been positive but educators would like to hear more.
MCAs need to be submitted. Mica with Kathryn to do this.

4:50 Directors Report

Deb Dwyer reported that she will step down as Director effective today. Deb would like to continue to be involved with GES in the following ways: to serve on the Board, work in Suzy's classroom and work on an all encompassing calendar. Deb has set up a Front Desk box for emails to be routed toward.
Barb Nagle moves for the Board to officially thank Deb as Founding Mother for all her leadership, vision and hard work. Patty Nordahl seconds. Ayes all.
Chaska School has 41 computers for $5.00 each. Available for us if we want them
Covenant School, a boarding school in St.Paul is available as a resource for our students.

5:03 Committee Reports

Amy Brown moves to hire Ann Rosenquist as a paraprofessional. Alan Stone seconds. Ayes all.

Nina Simonowicz moves to hire Patsy Ingebrigsten as Food Coordinator @ 8 hours a week. Suzy Schweig seconds. Ayes all.

Nina Simonowicz moves to hire Patsy Ingebrigsten as Project Manager. The Board will determine in the future, the appropriate employment status. Patty Nordahl seconds. Ayes all.

Nina Simonowicz moves to approve a full time office administrator position through December 31, 2004. Suzy Schweig seconds. Ayes all.

5:26 New Business

Dave Ingebrigsten asked about the possibility of GES attending Wolf Ridge and also taking classes with the North House Folk School. GES will be attending ACNW for a residential experience and possible family weekends. Dave Ingebrigsten will research the possibilities of having students attend North House Folk School.

Nina Simonowicz moves to appoint Suzy Schweig as acting director. Alan Stone seconds. Ayes all.

Amy Brown moves to appoint Deb Dwyer to a three year board term. Suzy Schweig seconds. Ayes all.

Nina Simonowicz and Patty Nordahl volunteered to be on the Enrollment Committee and open it up to parents to join as well.

5:50 Committee Reports (continued)

Alan Stone reported a comprehensive list of facility issues. Please see attached report for details.
Alan will create a maintenance schedule.

6:52 Announcements

If transportation committee approves map of parking area direction flow, map can be sent home in 1/16 Friday newsletter.
Parent Communications
Barb and Deb will write up an explanation of Debs transition out of Director position and also include a Board Members List and what each member has taken on as their responsibility. A calling tree will be sent home.
LIEC meeting
Barb and Suzy will be attending the next meeting 1/15.

Technology Update by Jeremy at the next Board Meeting

Enrollment committee needs to put into place an enrollment process for new students.

Snow day policy
Patty Nordahl moves to use ISD 166 as a guide to call snow days. Nina Simonowicz seconds. Ayes all.
