School Board Meeting Minutes


In Attendance:

Suzy Schweig, Nina Simonowicz, Tom Dwyer, Patsy Ingebrigtsen, Deb Dwyer, Patty Nordahl

4:03 Call to Order

by Suzy Schweig
welcome & reading of mission / no introductions

4:05 Approval of Agenda

Motion: Tom moved to approve agenda; Nina seconded; ayes all.

4:06 Approval of Minutes

4:08 Treasurer's Report

Motion: Nina moved to accept no treasurer's report; Tom seconded; ayes all.


4:10 Committee Reports

1) Enrollment :: Nina Simonowicz
Motion: Nina moved that first year enrollment (2003-2004) be as follows:
Grades K-8 with a maximum enrollment of 51 students in a multi-aged educational setting. Applications be accepted until March 14, 2003 with respect to enrollment caps. Those applying after March 14 will be enrolled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
In the event the enrollment exceeds 51, a lottery will be held in compliance with Minnesota Statute Section 124D.10.
If the number of students enrolled and on a waiting list prior to May 1, 2003 is 56, the board may choose to increase the enrollment cap to 64 students. This decision is at the sole discretion of the board.
Tom seconded; ayes all.

2) Building & Grounds :: Tom Dwyer
Business plan and papers for the loan assurance application are being presented in Washington, DC by Dr Norm Chaffee. Tom will have color presentations for the Jan 14 Q&A meeting. The search for property continues. FYI:Commercial buildings must have commercial kitchens (a large expense).

4:40 Old Business

1) Resource Coordinator's Report :: Deb Dwyer
Have not heard about status on the federal grant.
Becky R, an interested educator, will join us at our board retreat.
Kathy Hellner did a great job on stationary- Deb presented.
Going to UMD at 9am Jan 21 to meet with our partner.

2) Curriculum Coordinator's Report :: Suzy Schweig
Continuing to work and reflect on the process of creating curriculum for GES.

3) Jan 14 Meeting
overview: Introduction - Overview of Charter School - Community/School Life
EIC - One Child At A Time - Facility - Apllication Process - Q&A

4) Jan 28 Community Open House
we need a community relations update on PR
need an activity to get people interactive and thinking about how folks might be a part
of GES ....
will firm up next Monday

5) February Parent Meetings
tabled until next week

Feb board meetings will be 4-5:30, location to be announced
